Dr. Vickie Greenberg is a non-invasive, neuro-muscular, holistic orthodontist who focuses on a “less is best” care approach. Her belief is that treating the entire body, not just the teeth, is vital for restoring health, with the goal: “equilibrate the bite to equilibrate the body.”
Knowing that each patient’s case is unique to them and presents its own challenges, her top priority is to accurately diagnose each patient's condition so she can create a customized treatment plan.
Snoring occurs when there is a narrowing of the airway.
As the breathing passage narrows and you inhale during your sleep, it causes the tissues surrounding the airway to vibrate. This vibration is sometimes audible, producing a snoring sound that can disrupt your and your partner's sleep.
While snoring is common, the sources of these disruptive sleep noises can vary. They may include, but not limited to:

Airway & Snoring Treatment FAQ
Snoring and sleep apnea are often confused, but they are distinct conditions.
If you snore loudly, wake up feeling tired or experience pauses in your breathing while sleeping, you may have sleep apnea. This disorder can prevent you from getting the restorative sleep your body needs to function properly, and can negatively impact your health and your partner's sleep.
Thankfully, there are several ways to treat sleep apnea, including lifestyle changes, CPAP machines, surgery, and oral appliances. Depending on your situation, a referral or prescription from a medical doctor may be required for certain treatments. Our team can help you explore the best options for your specific needs.
One of the biggest benefits of treating your snoring is experiencing better rest at night. This is particularly important because without proper sleep, you can struggle throughout the day with work, focus, appetite, and stress. It’s easier to feel overwhelmed and your body begins to show side effects such as headaches or muscle aches.
This is why your treatment will first work to help you begin to sleep more effectively. Because snoring can be a symptom of a more serious condition, treating it can prevent them from developing or worsening. This includes helping overcome obesity and negating serious side effects from high blood pressure or heart disease. While treatments may not get rid of these diseases, they can alleviate some of the worst symptoms and help reduce their impact on your overall health.
The treatment time for airway and snoring issues will vary depending on the severity of your condition and the type of treatment you decide on. It is possible to experience relief from symptoms within a few weeks of starting treatment, however, it can take longer for the underlying causes to fully heal. During your consultation, Dr. Greenberg will discuss what to expect during your specific treatment and answer any questions you may have.
There are several ways you can treat your chronic snoring, depending on how severe it is and the cause. Treatments can be divided into two broad categories - Therapy and Surgery.
There are several different types of therapy that can be used to effectively treat snoring and related conditions, such as sleep apnea. A conventional sleep apnea treatment is a CPAP machine prescribed by a medical doctor. The most common is through a CPAP machine. CPAP stands for continuous positive airway pressure, which is provided through the use of a machine that delivers air through a mask that you wear during your sleep. Because of the greater air pressure, your upper airways stay open, which keeps you from snoring and prevents your sleep apnea.
There are also other types of machines that can help, including auto-CPAPs, which automatically adjust pressure while you sleep, and BPAP machines, which vary the pressure as you breathe in and out. Another effective treatment plan is to wear an oral device that is specifically designed to keep your throat open by pushing your jaw forward, which can relieve mild sleep apnea. Dr. Greenberg specializes in this area and can help provide the right device if this is the right treatment for you. Other kinds of treatments address other causes of sleep apnea (such as a neuromuscular disorder), increasing oxygen intake while you sleep, or using an ASV (adaptive servo-ventilation) device while you sleep.
Surgery to treat sleep apnea is usually only attempted after other treatments haven’t worked. Dr. Greenberg is known for finding non-surgical ways to treat sleep apnea disorders. However, if there is a serious issue in your jaw, surgery may be needed after all.
Types of surgery include removing tissue at the back of your mouth, using RF ablation to shrink tissue at the back of your mouth, creating implants in your soft palate, or repositioning your jaw by permanently moving it forward. Surgical options should only be considered for the most severe cases, so if you have already been diagnosed with sleep apnea for a short time, you are unlikely to need surgery. Most of all, Dr. Greenberg will use her expertise to find an effective way to treat your sleep apnea without the need for surgery so that you can improve your breathing and overall quality of life.
This varies depending on the type of treatment you get and how many treatments you need. Most insurance plans do not cover snoring treatments, but always check with your carrier, especially if your snoring is a direct result of medically diagnosed sleep apnea.
