Dr. Vicki Greenberg favors a holistic approach to her orthodontics practice. She firmly believes in treating the whole patient-not just their teeth. A person is made up of much more than just the sum of their parts, and she works tirelessly to improve not only the smiles of her patients, but their entire lifestyles.
Airway Orthodontics is an aspect of orthodontics that is directly in tune with Dr. Greenbergs philosophy of practice. If you have trouble sleeping, and none of your treatment options have worked so far, Airway Orthodontics may be right for you.
Airway Orthodontics is the practice of using orthodontic techniques in order to correct difficulties in breathing. Breathing easily and fully without difficulty is one of the most basic human functions that we take for granted-until we can’t do it properly.
Airway Orthodontics embraces the concept of non-extraction and non-invasive techniques. There are ways to improve the function of your mouth and airway without complicated surgeries or tooth extractions.
The central idea of airway orthodontics is that a properly functioning airway will contribute to an overall sense of wellness for the patient. When your jaw is out of alignment, air can’t flow properly. This may create difficulty in sleeping, snoring, headaches, and a myriad of other issues.
When your airflow is effective, you’re breathing better. You’ll sleep better, and wake up more rested and focused. For children especially, proper airflow during sleep is crucial. The brain is still developing and sufficient oxygen is imperative.
Two-phase treatment is employed to ensure that the patient has proper face, jaw, and airway development. With proper treatment the patient can be set for life with a stable and functioning jaw, and therefore properly flowing airway.
The first phase for children is to develop the jaw size so that it can accommodate all of their future teeth. Too often children and adults have to suffer extractions later in the game because their jaws simply don’t have the space for them. Dr. Greenberg tries to avoid extractions whenever possible.
Using our iTero digital simulator, we can develop a plan for child to receive the proper treatment so that extractions and surgery can be avoided in the future. We make sure that there is room for all of the growing teeth in the mouth before they erupt.
The second phase of treatment occurs after all of the teeth have erupted. This phase involves making sure that each tooth is in the proper position in the mouth in alignment with the lips, cheeks, tongue, and other teeth. This is where braces or Invisalign might come into play.
Dr. Greenberg believes that the early detection of potential problems is a key to lifelong functionality of the mouth and jaw. With that functionality comes the ability to breathe easily, and therefore sleep and feel better.
She has great compassion and interest in every one of her patients, and she designs treatment plans to work for each individual. She has the latest technology in her office, and is constantly working to further her education and expertise.
Orthodontics isn’t just about having an even set of teeth for class pictures. It’s a method of treatment that can help to improve just about every aspect of your life. Breathing and sleeping are affected by the way your mouth and jaw are designed.
